Welcome to Flipside Journal

Welcome to the Flipside Journal and our inaugural post. Our mission is simple: your guide to social networking in New England. Featuring “wicked local” news, advice and entertainment from networking bloggers around New England. I promise to scour the Internet and challenge your perceptions and preconceptions of networking possibilities that the Internet has to offer.

You are welcome to contribute your ideas, your passions and your passing thoughts on social networking as often as you’d like. Lets keep your first post simple, please place a comment to this article with suggestions on topics, videos, music, hobbies and interests that you’d like to share with our other readers (just click on the headline and scroll to the bottom of the article to post a comment). The Internet offers many unique and interesting ways to share content and I will be monitoring each request to see where I should focus my efforts each week.

Weekly Featured Communities. We all have limited time to spend on-line, so I’ve identified a number of on-line communities that have something unique and interesting to offer boomers and retirees alike. The Internet is great for email, basic research and shopping but I will endeavor to show you so much more. Did you have a pen pal in your youth? Did your family celebrate block parties each summer? Did you have a long distant relationship? There are outstanding communities ready to great you with open arms. All that is required to join is an email address and a password and you can start making new friends today.

e.g. Grandparents.com: It’s Great to be Grand. Have you written your grand children lately? There is a great discussion group on this topic that you may want to visit. Who knows you may even want to contribute. This site has one very useful tool – Find Interesting Things to Do in a City Near You. All you need to do is select a city near you and it will return a list of upcoming activities. You can narrow the list by selecting from 12 categories and even further by choosing an age range. Its a great tool whether you are grandparent or just looking for something fun to do.

Weekly Humor, Shorts & Rants. As a husband and father of four there are days where I just need some inspiration. It might be a funny video, a unique site or just a great book that a friend recommended. I’ll confess, I don’t have as much time to read as I’d like. My wife and I both work and we compete for time together against our kids schedules. I subscribe to a few great newsletters and this suggested site is from a good friend Paul Gillin. If you want to learn more about the Internet I highly recommend subscribing to his newsletter.

e.g. Something Funny/Inspirational: PostSecret.com is an site devoted to hand made post cards with simple messages. Some may move you emotionally. Some may just make your laugh. The site has resulted in several books, so you may even be moved to go Amazon.com to find out more.

There is so much more I want to share with each of you. Watch for new articles each week and I’ll see you on the Flipside.

Respectfully,

Dana Cutter, Editor
